Smile Campaign Production Diary

As of today I have completed filming the college classroom scene. I have recorded some behind the scenes footage and also filmed multiple drafts of the scene. I will go through each of these recordings and narrow it down to the best footage that was taken once I have recorded the rest of the scenes, which should be done by the end of next week.

For the first day of filming I used a Canon camera for the shots- and I used a shoulder level shot as I followed the actress into the classroom.

I had the actors following the script directly so that the scene was as scripted and I managed the actors effectively.

I believe the actual shot went well- as well as filming multiple shots so that I could pick the best one once I start to edit the footage- however I believe I could've filmed more shots so that I had more options- but I did not so that the actors did not feel overworked and get tired of filming. I will include some behind the scenes footage of the college classroom shot.

As of the 15th I have completed filming all of the house scenes. I used the Canon eos 4000D camera to film these scenes. I also recorded some behind the scenes footage to show prove of filming multiple takes so that when the time comes I can pick from the best take to put into the final footage.

I had the actor follow the script closely- and made sure they had breaks, food and water during those breaks.

I believe I filmed enough takes to choose from the best- but I believe I could've filmed the takes better- with maybe using a tripod or a dolly as opposed to just holding the camera as perhaps then it would have been slightly less shaky. Unfortunately the footage did not save and due to scheduling issues I will not be able to film the scenes again as of now. I will need to find a way to overcome this.

Today I filmed the park scene. I used a Canon eos 4000D camera to film this scene. I filmed multiple takes of this shot so that I would be able to choose from the best take  when it came to editing them. I also took care as to not film the general public as I did not have permission to film them. I also took some behind the scenes photos and a video as to show evidence of filming. I directed the actor as to how act and what to do when I was filming then. I ensure my cast had small breaks so they did not get tired of shooting.

I believe I shot the scenes well, but I could've allowed the crew to take longer breaks so that they did not get too tired.

Today I had to refilm the house scenes- as the footage did not save from day 3- and due to scheduling issues we could not go back to the house set to film those scenes. Instead I used the college studio and used the green screen- in editing I will edit a house background into the shot so it looks like a house. For these scenes i also used a Canon eos 4000D camera- like the previous shots and scenes. I filmed some behind the scenes footage and pictures as evidence for filming.

I believe that I directed the crew quite well- however I feel as though I could have filmed the scenes a little better.

I only used a Canon camera for filming these scenes- as all of the footage that I shot was walking around or behind the subject. I believe I could have used a tripod to stabilize these shots- but I did not think it would be easy to film- as I would have to carry the tripod around the subject- and even then it may not have been stable as I was still walking with it. I could have used a dolly to film the scenes- yet for the shot type and composition I was going for I do not believe it would have given me the footage I needed- as I believe it would have been harder to follow the actor throughout the shots.
I used the shot compositions that I did as for the advert my idea was to follow around the actor throughout the scenes as if it were just a normal day in their life. I believe using a tripod would have made these shots harder to obtain.
