Podcast Pre Production (Risk Assessment and Contributors)

For the podcast I had to complete pre production paperwork. I filled out a risk assessment for the room we would be in and also contributor release forms for everyone who I planned to be involved.

Podcast Production Resources

Microphones For the podcast we will be using a Rode NT1A microphone to record the episode. It is a large diaphragm condenser microphone. This type of microphone is appropriate as  it is suited to record studio vocals- as opposed to a handheld microphone which is most suited for vocals outside of the studio. Recording vocals on a diaphragm condenser microphone will make the vocals clearer on the track. In our last podcast we used a dynamic microphone to record- there are a few differences between these two mics. The main difference is that a dynamic microphone is better for capturing loud sounds- such as drums or loud vocals, whereas a condenser microphone is used to capture more delicate sounds- like studio vocals. A condenser will be better suited for this recording as we will be recording the episode in a studio, and it will be able to pick up the vocals better than a dynamic microphone. A cradle for the microphone is important- as it helps keep the mic stable. If we were ...

Pre-Production Risk Assessments

For each scene I will be filming in my advert, I had to complete a separate risk assessment form to analyse what risks we may face- and what measures we could take to overcome them. I had to complete a form for the different locations I would be filming in, as there would be different risks in each location- for example in public there is the slight risk of assault by person- whereas in a private property there will be no risk of that.

Pre-Production- Personnel and Resources

As part of my pre production I have gathered a cast of three that will be starring in my advert. I have set up a form of communication with them so I can get across my ideas and the times and places we will be filming. I have also filled out a personnel list, in which i have included their names, their roles and their phone numbers.   I have also filled out a resource list for the advert- in which I have included each resource that I need to acquire for the shoot- and whether or not I have obtained this item as of yet. I will need to get the camera on the days that I am filming, but as of now i have everything else I require for the filming. I also had to give the actors a contributor release form so that I had their permission for them to be on camera and for the footage to be used as part of the advert.

Pre-Production- Locations

For the pre production I had to complete location scouting forms so that I knew where I would be filming- and also what the power capabilities an soundscape was for each location. Along side the scouting forms I had to complete release forms for each location so I had permission to film there. The only place I did not fill out a release form for was the park- as it is a public location. I completed a release form for the college classroom scene- where I had one of my lecturers sign off on it so I had their permission to film in the classroom- I also did a release form for the house- as I had to get the house owners permission to film some scenes there.

Pre-Production-Script and Storyboard and Shooting Schedule

Image
To start pre-production, I wrote a script for my advert using the program CeltX. This program helps format any scripts into Master Scene Script- which is the most commonly used format of scripting in tv. I have thought out the scenes of my advert and explained them in this script. I have not included camera angles, as I will do this in the storyboard. After writing my script I drew out a storyboard to convey the ideas about the scenes that will be in my advert. I added text under the boards of drawing to describe what was going on in each scene. I also included arrows in the boxes to show which way the camera would pan, and which way the characters would move. I wrote in the text boxes which camera angles I would use, and attempted to convey those in the drawings too. I also completed a shooting schedule so that I am able to know what days I will be shooting each scene. I created an alternative shooting schedule just in case I could not film on one of those days.
